iPhone and iPod touch v1.1.1 Jailbreak Confirmed

As reported today by Engadget, the iPhone dev community has confirmed that they have entered the highly protected file system. They have gotten all apps up and running along with springboard on v1.1.1. This is a huge step forward in allowing access to installing 3rd party apps back on the iphone for the rest of us. However, this news does come with an asterisks. Apparently this hack takes advantage of a single exploit in mobile safari which the next iphone upgrade will most likely fix. Then it’s back to square one.
