Sending Picture Messages with iPhone

9 October 2007 2,756 views 5 Comments

The lack of MMS support with the iPhone is disappointing. I realize that this is not the quintessential missing feature of the iPhone but it’s something most of us have gotten accustomed to over the years.

Now just because we don’t have native support for picture messaging doesn’t mean we can’t send and receive them from the iPhone. Using this handy guide I have outlined the “work a around” way of sending off pictures to your friends and family and all you need to know is their specific carrier.
Most cell phone carriers provide a specific email address that will allow you to send pictures via email to a cell phone. For example, if I wanted to send a picture to my friend on Verizon I would use this email address: xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com

Simply replace the x’s with their actual phone number.

Here is a list of common carriers and their respective email extensions. Remember just replace the x’s with the actual phone number.

  1. Alltel = xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com
  2. AT&T = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net
  3. Boost Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@myboostmobile.com
  4. Cingular (AT&T) = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.mycingular.com
  5. Einstein PCS = xxxxxxxxxx@einsteinmms.com
  6. Sprint = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com
  7. T-Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net
  8. US Cellular = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.uscc.net
  9. Verizon Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com
  10. Virgin Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vmobl.com

TIP: I often edit my phone book to include two email address for anyone I like to send picture messages to specifically. I enter their normal email address and also their cell phone email address. This way when I’m looking at a picture I’d like to send with just a few clicks I can send it to one of my friends or family.

A lot of these carriers email addresses don’t actually work though. Like T-Mobile.

I’ve found that when sending an email to the Verizon address it can take a while for it to be received, but it did work. If you confirm that any of these don’t work, or their are alternative email addresses for these or other carriers let us know.

I’ve used SwirlyMMS with great success for over 6 months on AT&T! I know several others have problems to get it up & running, but I also know many others that have it working great!
Me and my friends can send pictures, audio clips, long text messages and videos (the video format must be in mp4 or mov) and we do a lot! :-)
