Review of AppSnapp Installer for 1.1.1

Yesterday we here at the iPhone Journal decided to brave this new jailbreak just for our readers. We used a normal iPhone running v. 1.1.1 and decided to jailbreak just to see what happens. Below you will read about the steps we took, what to expect and our results.

1. Go to Settings –> General –> Auto-Lock and choose Never
2. Click on Safari
3. Enter this url in your browser: jailbreakme.com
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Install AppSnapp
5. After a few seconds Safari should disappear and you should be taken to the home screen. (This is good)
6. The home screen will be locked and after a few min (took us about 5 min) you should be automatically redirected to the lock screen. (Be sure to wait, as it can take longer than 5 min to reach the unlock screen).
7. Unlock your phone and you should have a new icon labeled: Installer

That’s really all there is to it. In fact it’s a bit too simply if you ask us, but if you’re itching for third party apps and don’t want to wait, this seems to work. Of course neither the authors of the site or iPhone Journal take any responsility for what this might do to your phone, either now or in the future. Use at your own risk.

Ok, now that we have installer back we decided to check out a few apps.

First, we installed SummerBoard. This app frees your dock screen and allows you to have multiple pages of apps. You can also customize the look and feel with different themes. We haven’t found one that we like quite yet, but there are plenty to choose from in the installer.

Secondly, we installed MobileTodoList App. This was the feature that we missed most. Lots of great todo list features.

And lastly we installed ApolloIm for our instant message client. This has gone through a major upgrade since we last tested. Nice clean interface, well organized buddy list with away message indicators for your buddy’s and a online/offline button to easily change your status.
