Select Developers got iPhone SDK early
It makes sense that some high end developers were given the iphone SDK a bit early.
A software development kit (SDK or “devkit”) is typically a set of development tools that allows a software engineer to create applications for a certain software package, software framework, hardware platform, computer system, video game console, operating system, or similar platform.
As promised native third party applications will be coming in February and they need to have at least a few beta applications ready for launch date.
One thing we do know for sure is that extra measures are going maintaining security of these applications.
When Apple finally opens its iPhone and iPod touch to third-party developers early next year, it will employ some extra measures to maintain the security and stability of the mobile platforms, such as requiring a digital signature on each authorized application.
“That way if there’s something wrong with an application, you have a way to track it back to where it came from,” Joswiak said. “So one of the things we want to do, again, is create a development environment that is going to maintain the security and reliability of the iPhone yet at the same time offer developers some really cool things that we can do.”
