iPhone Update v1.1.3 Released
Steve Jobs just finished his keynote at Macworld 2008. This keynote has brought us some new features for the iphone (all of which seemed to have been leaked a few weeks prior…
Maps with location
Webclips
Customize home screen(s)
SMS multiple people at once
Chapters, subtitles, lanuages (ipod feature)
Lyrics support
Ok, first we have “Maps with location”
They partnered with Google and Skyhook. Google triangulates the cell towers to pinpoint your location (not exact but close). Skyhook will do the same thing but with wi-fi data. Now your location is pinpointed and you can work from this to map your route etc…
Second “Wepclips”
This is my personal favorite. You can now add bookmarks to your home screen (or one of the 9 screens that you get now, more on that later). When you visit a website you can click the + symbol and click “Add Bookmark” like you normally would or “Add to Home Screen”. This will place an icon on the home screen that links directly to that webpage. Great feature for those common web apps you might us.
Next, “Customize home screen(s)”
Don’t like were you icons are located on the homescreen? Now you can move them around or put them on different pages. Much like summerboard (iphone hack) you can have multiple screens and basically put icons where you please. Simply hold down an icon for a few seconds and it begins to shake, now you can drag them were you please. You have up to 9 screens to fill up with cool webclips or third party apps (coming late February).
Next, “SMS multiple people at once”
This one is a bit more self explanatory. You can now send sms messages to more than one person at a time. Definitely a missing feature and we’re glad it’s added.
The other features deal specifically with the ipod portion of the phone. They simply add more functionality.
Finally, if you’re an ipod touch user they are giving you some missing apps:
Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather
However, you need to pay $20 to get them. All new ipod touches will come preloaded with these apps.
