Shazam and Midomi

Simply stated these two apps: Shazam and Midomi are sick!

Let me set up the scene.  You are at home or in the car listening to the radio and that song comes on, you know the one you love but can’t remember the name…  Fear not, just click on one of these two apps on your iphone and hold the phone up the the speakers.  In just a few seconds it will produce the name of the song, the artist and other relevant information.

It gets even better, it will also provide a link directly to the itunes store so you can buy the song if you are so inclined.

I’ve been playing around with both and here are my thoughts on each.

Shazam

  • I have no been able to stump this app yet
  • Clean interface
  • Able to produce the song information in an average of 20 seconds

Midomi

  • I have been able to stump this app a few times using the radio
  • It provides a feature that Shazam doesn’t where you can sing into it or type in some information about the song and it can still detect it.

They are both free, and I installed both on my phone.

Shazam actually isn’t free, to download it off the app store it is. But if you read in the license agreement you can be charged after a limited time after usage. But Midomi is absolutely free in all ways, it just uses your data minutes (if you have unlimited). Just letting you know.
